Overseas Retailers' Qualified Saddle Fitters Course

Leading to assessment for the Society’s City & Guilds Certificate in Saddle Fitting

Length of course:      5 days, including 4 days of tuition and one of assessment.

 


Dates:                      To be confirmed.  Likely August 2009.

 

 

Object of the course:

 

To make available the SMS recommended saddle fitting system, as adopted by Registered Qualified Saddle Fitters in the UK, to approved overseas customers and agents of Society of Master Saddlers Trade members, and to offer assessment for the Society’s City & Guilds Certificate in Saddle Fitting.

 

 

Criteria for attendance:

Candidates must fulfil all of the following criteria:

i.       Be employed by or own a business which is retailing saddles supplied by a Society of Master Saddlers trade (manufacturing) member and be recommended by said member. (At least 33% of the saddle and bridlework stock held by the business to be manufactured in the UK)

ii.    Have at least 3 years’ experience in saddle fitting.

iii.  Be fluent in English.

Cost in 2008:

£1,700.00 + VAT @ 17.5%


Fee includes:

Tuition, assessment, all meals and refreshments, and college accommodation for 5 nights.

 

Assessment:

Candidates will be assessed on the following procedures:

Conformation & Action in Hand
Horse description
Saddle Assessment and Fault Identification
Taking Template Measurements
Practical Saddle Fitting.
