Saddlers’ one-day CPD modules

Challenging Fits & Practical Solutions

17th April            East Durham College, Houghall Campus, Durham.
13th August            Moulton College, Northampton

Suitable for Saddle Fitters and Saddlers, Beginners or experienced
A  one-day module looking at difficult to fit horses and discussing and assessing suitable solutions.
The day will comprise of a range of interactive and practical saddle fitting sessions looking at challenging fits and what to do when things go wrong.  Delegates will be asked to consider challenges faced by saddle fitters and factor in conformation, gait and girthing challenges as well as the importance of tree and panel shape.  Delegates will also be asked to consider appropriate practical solutions to real life cases.  The day will also include aspects of the legal implications saddle fitter’s face, what to do when things go wrong, the importance of good customer service as well as giving clear guidance on the SMS position.

Cost:  SMS Members:      £140 plus VAT      including lunch and refreshments.
           BETA Members:    £210 plus VAT
           Others:                   £250 plus VAT

Flocking to Fit  Open to SMS Members who hold the SMS Flocking Certificate

18th April    Brinsbury College, Sussex.

A  one-day practical flocking module.

Delegates will work in pairs, assessing saddles on horses and carrying out suitable adjustments to the saddles under the guidance of Master Saddler tutors.

Delegates must bring saddles on which to work.

tips on maintaining and using your sewing machine including:

• Cleaning, Setting tension and Timing issues

• Different types of needles and threads and where they can be used.
• Skiving machine and use of seaming attachments.
• Accessories including different types of feet and attachments.

You will be able to practice some of these techniques on the machines at Vale Brothers.
