Qualified Saddle Fitters' Course (Overseas Applicants)

Venue: The Pitsford Centre, Moulton College, Moulton, Northamptonshire, NN3 7QL

Length of course: 

5 days of tuition and one of assessment.   
Object of the course: 

To make available the SMS recommended saddle fitting system, as adopted by Registered Qualified Saddle Fitters in the UK, to approved overseas customers and agents of Society of Master Saddlers Trade members.  Delegates undertake assessment for the City & Guilds / SMS Certificate in Saddle Fitting.

Criteria for attendance: 

Candidates should fulfil the following criteria:
i. Be employed by or own a business which is retailing saddles supplied by
a Society of Master Saddlers UK trade member and be recommended by  said member. 
ii. Have 3 years’ experience in saddle fitting. 
(Fulfilment of this criteria is recommended as the level of tuition assumes that delegates are experienced saddle fitters)
iii. Be fluent in English.
iv. After 1st January 2017 to hold the Society’s Saddle Flocking qualification.

Fees in 2018

Members £1,800 + VAT @ 20%  
Non-members £2,100 + VAT @ 20%

Assessment fee £395 + VAT @ 20%

Fee includes:  

5 full days of theory and practical lectures

Access to SMS on-line training
All meals and refreshments for 5 days
Accommodation for 6 nights in a single college room with ensuite bathroom.


Candidates will be assessed on the following procedures:

Conformation, Horse Description & Action in Hand
Saddle Assessment and Fault Identification
Taking Templates
Practical Saddle Fitting of two horses
