The Society of Master Saddlers is the world’s foremost body representing all elements of the Saddlery Industry. Our logo is recognised all over the world. By becoming an SMS member, you show that you align yourself with our values and high standards and join a community of similarly driven people and businesses, where the welfare of the horse comes first.
It is important to find a professional you can trust to deliver a professional service, whether you need to find a bridle or saddle fitter, a bespoke item made for your horse, or repairs made.
SMS members must be qualified to deliver a particular service, such as Bridle Making, or Saddle Fitting. Our City & Guilds courses teach protocols for making and fitting saddlery (as appropriate) and include instruction and assessment.
Our Qualified Fitting members must complete annual Continued Professional Development, but all members are encouraged to do so.
If you are not satisfied with the quality of work or service, the Society have a Complaints process and a dedicated Liaison Officer. You can read more, or initiate the process, here.
Increasingly, our Registered and Qualified Fitting members work more closely with other equine professionals to maintain the optimum fit for your horse and for you. With close ties to the whole horse and rider care-team an SMS member is well-placed to serve you and your horse.
