National Saddlery Competition – A Celebration of Craftsmanship
Since 1974, the National Saddlery Competition has stood as the highlight of The Society’s calendar. Proudly supported by The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and a range of generous sponsors, the event showcases the exceptional talent of our inventive, skilled, and dedicated members from around the world. At the heart of the competition lies the prestigious Bruce Emtage Memorial Plate for Best in Show, the most coveted award among a remarkable display of craftsmanship. Held at the historic Saddlers’ Hall, just steps from St Paul's Cathedral, the Competition welcomes Society members of all levels from Apprentices to Masters. In the week leading up to the event, Saddlers' Hall comes alive with the arrival of entries. Over the weekend, a panel of expert judges undertakes the meticulous task of assessing each entry and awarding prizes across a wide range of classes. Keep an eye on our social media for more updates and exclusive profiles of previous winners and judges.
Lunchtime Reception – Celebrating Influence and Collaboration
Our valued partners in equestrian sport, academia and the saddlery trade are invited to join us at a Lunchtime Reception, where they can see the remarkable entries first-hand. This special gathering is an opportunity to discuss how saddlery’s artistry, craft and precision continue to play a critical role in equine welfare, safety, and performance, from sport and leisure to retirement. Guests enjoy canapés and a sparkling drink or two while engaging with judges and the Executive.
Gala Awards Evening – The Grand Finale
The Gala Awards Evening Reception, our very own “Oscars”, is the spectacular conclusion to the Competition. The event combines the excitement of the awards presentations with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where people can catch up with old friends and meet new ones. The photos from the evening show every year just how much it means to everyone, with plenty of smiles and moments of celebration.
